Common Eider (Somateria mollissima)

Eiders are a type of sea duck that dive for shellfish off the coasts of Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. Their nests are constructed in the far northern areas of North America, and they pluck fluffy down feathers off of their own bodies to use as insulation in their nests while brooding eggs. These feathers are very efficient at retaining heat and are thus often collected by people from old nests to make textiles.
