Pesquet’s parrots, informally known as Dracula parrots, are large black and red parrots native to hilly and alpine forests in New Guinea. They do not drink blood like the Dracula in folklore, but rather eat fruit, flowers, and nectar. They lack feathers on their faces to avoid getting sticky fruit juice stuck in between them. They lay eggs in hollow trees and typically stay together in groups. The feathers of Pesquet’s parrots are very valuable, but they should NOT be hunted.
