Egyptian Fruit Bat (Rousettus aegyptiacus)

Egyptian fruit bats are medium sized bats native to a wide range from Africa to the Mediterranean. It has one of the largest brains of all bat species in relation to its body size, allowing it to communicate with a complex “language” with others of its species. By producing a series of squeals and grunts, they can have conversations with one another about food and other topics. Egyptian fruit bats in different areas of the world even develop different “accents” and “slang” that they inherit from their parents when they are young. Larger sensory lobes of their brain also make their senses of smell and sight keen, aiding them in locating fruit at night.
