Golden Spiny-Tailed Gecko (Strophurus taenicuda)

Native to the forests and shrublands of Australia, golden spiny-tailed geckos are nocturnal insect eaters. They spend the entire day resting in the crevices of trees and emerge at night to catch their prey. They can secrete a viscous, noxious fluid from their tails in an effort to deter predators. During the breeding season, females of this species will always lay two eggs. Like other geckoes, since they do not have eyelids, they need to lick their eyeballs to hydrate them.
